NEWS 12 LAUNCHES NEW HYPER-LOCAL SPANISH NEWS SERVICES
Now the local news most relevant to the Hispanic community is available
completely En Español
(Woodbury, New York, XX) – News 12 Networks launches News 12 the Bronx En Español, and News 12 New Jersey En Español, two new Spanish language news services available on the Web, and on iO TV’s channel 612. These new Spanish language services include a daily newscast, top stories on demand, local weather reports, and local traffic information from the local news leader, News 12. These services are community oriented, hyper-local in approach, and completely targeted to the Spanish-speaking and bilingual audience in the Bronx and New Jersey respectively. Relevant national and international news will be covered during the daily newscasts, with particular emphasis on countries of origin for the Hispanic communities.
“What sets our Spanish news service apart is the localism,” said Pat Dolan, President of News 12 Networks. “There are other Spanish newscasts available, but none of them get to the heart of the neighborhoods like we do. That is the mission of News 12 and it is now the mission of News 12 En Español. This service provides news and information specifically relevant to the Spanish speaking communities in the Bronx and New Jersey. There are dedicated news personnel to this effort who are gathering pertinent information locally and presenting it to this underserved audience.”
News 12 En Español is a free service to Cablevision customers, and other cable customers who receive News 12. The Web version of the Spanish service also features links to story information, the “question of the day,” lottery numbers and a viewer upload area for pictures and videos.
Celia de Mendoza will anchor the News 12 El Bronx En Español newscast and Alina Yaniz will anchor the News 12 New Jersey En Español newscast. Newscasts are produced by Geraldine Cols Azócar with the support of the News 12 New Jersey, News 12 the Bronx, and News 12 Interactive departments.
“We have created a full-service newscast that gets right to the heart of local issues within the Spanish speaking community,” said Geraldine Cols Azócar, Producer of News 12 En Español. “Our goal is to be the preeminent local news destination for the Spanish and bilingual audience in the Bronx and New Jersey. We have the team and tools and we are excited to start serving this community with the information they really need.”
The daily seven to ten-minute newscast will include the stories of the day, both locally and abroad, relevant to the Hispanic community, as well as a local weather forecast. Top stories will also be available for single story selection as video-on-demand, as well as weather and traffic information available for the viewer to select at their convenience. The News 12 En Español services can be found at www.news12EnEspanolnj.com and www.news12EnEspanolbx.com for New Jersey and Bronx news respectively. Additionally the service is available on iO TV, on News 12’s Interactive channel 612. In the Bronx or New Jersey region of the channel, viewers can find the Spanish service as a main menu selection.
“In addition to providing a new beneficial news service, News 12 En Español also represents an advancement in technology,” said David Kirschner, General Manager of News 12 Interactive. “An automated production system called a Tri-Caster enables talent from the local regions to file reports and even anchor newscasts from remote locations. This streamlining of resources allows News 12 to keep the focus and energy on newsgathering.”
